Between the Lines
Between the Lines (2008) is a documentary written by Scott Bass and produced by Bass and Ty Ponder. Utilizing a mix of archival footage, still images, and interviews, the film takes a close look at the Vietnam War through the prism of the surf culture, examining the effect the war had on young American men who rode waves. Narrated by screenwriter/director John Milius, Between the Lines boldly explores the choice that many surfers faced at the time: go to war or evade the draft. It is an honest, open, riveting tale of two youthful surfers who take opposite paths, and how each dealt with his life-altering decision.
